Banned Books Week is coming.

Standard

September 30 through October 6, 2012, marks the 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week, the American Library Association’s (ALA) annual event to call attention to attempts to challenge and/or outright ban books from libraries nationwide.

Even if you’re too caught up in the semester to read anything other than your class-related materials (oh, non-required reading, I miss you most of all), it’s always important to remain aware of the issues surrounding intellectual freedom and the fight against the censorship of books and ideas.

More information will be posted here to the blog next week, but if you’re looking for more information in the meantime, check out the display of banned and challenged books up on the second floor of the library (on the shelves facing the rear entrance to the quiet section) or visit the ALA’s Banned Books Week site at http://www.ala.org/advocacy/banned/bannedbooksweek.
