It’s HELIN database trial time again and what that means for Bryant students and faculty is periodic access to awesome business resources. These are databases the library does not subscribe to at the moment, but might consider if enough Bryant users provide the librarians with feedback indicating a particular resource is very useful for completing coursework.
We’d like you to give all the databases a try, but if you are working on a paper or project involving a business topic, the following products will be particularly useful:
EuroMonitor Passport GMID
Data, trends and information on particular products, countries and consumers. For example, you need to find the market reach for pet products in Germany (or any selected country). You would simply select your product category and a geographic area and view relevant reports. In this example, you would be delighted to find an October 2011 report on Pet Products in Germany that includes trends, a competitive landscape, and prospects for the product in the country. You can also view related reports such as this one: Spending on Pet Healthcare in Developed Markets Defies Hard Times. The EuroMonitor Passport GMID also contains a vast amount of economic data on countries. An essential trial for any student in economics, international business or marketing, marketing, or BUS101!
The Economist Historical Archive (1843-2006) and the Financial Times Historical Archive (1888-2006)
Search the archives of these two well-known publications covering the global financial news. These are great resources for locating articles on a topic dealing with economic or financial history.
Gale Business Insights
A database to “research and analyze companies, industries and economies around the world.” This new database has unique charting abilities that let users compare and contrast companies and countries. For example, users can compare competitor’s revenues or the economies of selected countries. A library of business cases supplied by the Journal of the International Academy for Case Studies and Global Business is also available through this resource.
Plunkett Research Online
A useful source to research the current trends and growth potential of a particular industry and compare financial information on competitors. Plunkett Research Online is also a great resource for those looking for jobs in a particular industry, since contact information is given for top management in companies presented in each industry. Create your own list of companies with contact information for the HR director or VP.
Proquest Statistical Insight
Data and statistics on agriculture, trade, money and interest rates, taxes and more. Data is international in scope and taken from federal and state agencies, trade associations, & business and research organizations. Users can run basic or advanced searches and limit results by geographic area. Many of the data sets can be downloaded into Excel and/or displayed in pdf format.
